In a move aimed at enhancing transparency and the timeliness of labor statistics, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) will begin releasing India's unemployment data on a monthly basis starting from May 15, 2025. This marks a significant shift from the previous quarterly release format.

The first set of data will cover unemployment figures for the first quarter of 2025, including January, February, and March. From then on, the data will be published every month, allowing for more frequent updates on the state of the country's labor market.
A senior official from MoSPI confirmed the change, explaining that the decision was made to ensure that the government and the public have access to more up-to-date labor market information. This initiative is expected to provide more granular insights into employment trends, helping policymakers, businesses, and job seekers stay better informed.
The new monthly unemployment reports are expected to play a crucial role in guiding economic policies and shaping discussions around India's economic growth.
